DLP improves safety with mezzanine floor lift

DLP Ltd has fitted a Transdek goods lift at its production facility in Douglas, Isle of Man, to provide safer access to the site’s mezzanine storage area.

Founded in 1988, DLP is a specialist manufacturer of bathroom and kitchen products for the assisted living sector, including the world’s first Bluetooth Smart controlled electric shower. The company, which supplies markets in the UK, Europe and North America, employs over 260 staff and has a £40 million plus turnover.

DLP turned to Transdek to help overcome a serious health and safety issue at its factory, where fork lift trucks were being used to lift pallets 2m x 1.2m in size onto a mezzanine floor in a busy area of the warehouse.

Transdek produced a 1000kg mezzanine lift with a platform width of 2450mm x 1750mm to service the 4 metre high storage area at the site. The goods lift carries one to two of DLP’s pallets from ground to mezzanine floor, and includes fully interlocked safety gates at both top and bottom stations.

The lift was built to Transdek’s modular design, transported to the island by ferry, and installed in one-and-a-half days straight on to the existing warehouse floor, with no additional civil works required.

Tim Develin, Health & Safety/ Maintenance Manager for DLP, commented, “Transdek’s mezzanine lift has not only allowed us to improve health and safety at our Snugborough site, it also means we can access our storage area more efficiently and save the cost of a fork lift and trained driver.”
